In fourth grade we use a multitude of learning and study strategies to comprehend our materials. Students especially enjoy hands-on opportunities with Science labs and experiments, as well as study opportunities with games and introducing literature circles during reading class.
In Reading, fourth graders are challenged to go beyond facts and find themes, applications, and form opinions about the books they read. Students complete several creative book projects during the year and design and present their own presentations through Google Slides on the Smartboard. Students are encouraged to use creative thinking skills during project-based learning and build several 3-dimensional paper projects throughout the year.
Fourth grade is also a great opportunity to emphasize music in our curriculum. Students learn to play the ukulele and work through a variety of songs, rounds, and duets.
In fourth grade, we greatly focus on students working toward independence and gaining responsibility. Students are in charge of organizing their materials and work and practicing time management skills.
In Math and Science, we work on developing problem solving skills and applying factual knowledge to new situations. In Language and Writing, we focus on keeping our ideas organized in order to form well thought out paragraphs and explanations.

I love guiding students as they explore new thoughts and activities and gain understanding of their unique skills. Students continue to deepen their friendships with each other and teachers and share their individual interests and ideas with everyone. They are not afraid to show love or compassion to those around them and are not afraid to try new things.
